how am i supposed to get anything done in life when all i want to do is research tropical honeymoon locations and surf the internet for travel ideas? it's less than 6 months and this weekend i make a big step and move out of my lovely little apt into my gracious friends beautiful home to save money till the wedding. i'm ready. too bad the unpacked boxes aren't as ready as my mind is.

this is my little wedding book. it's really a journal that my lovely friend lorien gave me for my birthday this year. i love the colors and flowers so much and the cover is actually a lovely silky fabric. so i decided to use this as my organizer since i don't like all the big bulky ones in the stores. this one goes with me everywhere these days. it's got scribbles and notes and ideas and inspirations and phone numbers and budgets and lists and prices and even a little drawing or two in it now. we also purchased this wedding software to keep our guest list, budget and other details organized. i think we are on track now. we have a place, we have a budget and we have alot of ideas. my mom is flying up soon to help me look for a dress. there are a million more decisions to be made, but i am loving every minute of it.

this is it
after a month of research, a few tears and at least one melt down...my overanalytical self and my ever patient fiance finally decided on the loveliest of all lovely churches for our wedding and found what in our minds is the coolest idea ever for a downtown reception. i can't give out all the details to the world wide web, but suffice it to say....we are very excited. :)

dollhouse
there it was. perfectly preserved. a little slice of my childhood i had totally forgotten about. i was wandering through an antique mall on a sunday afternoon and came across this old barbie dollhouse tucked under a table and out of the way. i had this exact one. my grandmother bought it for me at a yard sale. i loved it then and i love it now. it came with a house full of furniture and folded up into a little cube that you could take with you. i do remember mine starting to fall apart and the plastic cracking. this one is in mint condition, just sitting there waiting to be purchased. i wonder what ever happened to my old one. it's funny how seeing a toy like this can take you back in time.

early thanksgiving
today i just feel so blessed that it's bursting out of me and has to spill out somewhere. i am so thankful for my amazing and adoreable fiance', for my wonderful parents whose love just keeps going beyond what i ever dreamed, for my future family with the kind of mother and father inlaw that one could only hope and pray to have with such kind hearts, and for a community of friends that i am convinced are like no other. thanksgiving is still a few weeks away, but i am celebrating early.

and so it begins...
ok, all you lovelies that read my blog. the planning is in full force. my brain is going 800 miles an hour thinking of cakes, venues, catering, dresses, decorations and the works. it's funny how quickly the planning start once you are engaged. everyone has different ideas and plans for you. i love it all. it's so much fun!
so i am calling out to you married ladies out there and i asking for your advice and ideas. what do you wish you had done differently? what did you learn the hard way? what did you do right that you loved. i want to hear it all.
will this turn into a bridal blog? that's what's on my brain so chances are that's going to come up alot in all my conversations for the next 7 months till the lovely day we have picked out, may 19th, 2007. i can't wait! :)
here's the wedding blog/sites that i am reading and enjoying with some thrown in that aren't dedicated to weddings but have written about their own weddings with beautiful style, if you know of others that are a must see let me know:
something old something new
wedding register

cupcakes on a monday
there are more, but i will save them for another day.....

steps
not goodbye but see you later to old friends, hello to long lost loved ones, taking deep breaths, quitting jobs and beginning a brand, brand new kind of job, stopping, closing my eyes, taking a deep breath, feeling the cool breeze, hearing the wind in the trees, seasons changing, breathing some more, letting go of stress, taking new steps.

sweetness
to sum it up....
it was fabulous.
there was a romantic dinner for two at spagio , followed a week later by a small dinner party hosted by zabs and
nathan and irene. this incredible (and when i say incredible i mean incredible) cake from the famous mrs. goodman's bakery with melt in your mouth icing and lemon raspberry filling, flowers, presents too pretty to unwrap, a box filled to the brim that seemed to have no end with treasures from my mom from earrings and stationary to the sweetest little biue bird tea cups and all manner of delightful goodness, wonderful phone calls and messages from old friends, cards that are still hanging on my wall for me to enjoy just a little while longer, the best lemon pound cake in the world during a wonderful labor day trip to my dad's by the ocean where i also received wonderful gifts and more nostalgic vinyl that i'll tell you about another day, a delightful lunch and pedicure with my friend rachael, a wonderful dinner with my friend lorien and more presents and hillarious cards.
there was too much really, i am blessed beyond description. it's too much love for me to fathom. i don't know if i am spoiled rotten or just the luckiest girl in the world.
then to top it all off, my boyfriend spent days making me what may be the world's only yacht rock soundtrack....no, not just cd's with every single song from the entire series in order....but the vinyl records to go with it so that i own what may also be the world's only true yacht rock vinyl collection.
it was one of my favorite birthdays ever in life.

i can feel it coming.
it's creeping up, slowly but surely. today i can really feel it in the wind that blows past me from my open window. the tree outside, the one that acts as a signal for all the seasons is starting to show tips of orangey red on the once bright green leaves. there may be some more days to come of indian summer but i know autumn is coming. i can feel it. it's my favorite season of all.

there are some old records and more to come, a johnny mathis business card holder, vintage radio promo pieces....just all sorts of neat stuff. there are some beautiful antique perfume bottle as well passed down from a legendary aunt in our family in the 1920's. he's still cleaning things out, so i am sure there will be more to come.

found
someone painted this on a electric box on broad street. i guess when you live close to the art school, it shouldn't surprise you to find art in unexpected places. nevertheless, i was delighted by this little scene.
today i went for a walk.
going on my walks are so good for my soul. i need these moments of solitude. it clears my head. opens my eyes. helps me breathe better. it never ceases to amaze me how many little surprises like this bit of graffiti that you can find on a walk if you keep your eyes open for the everyday beauty around you.
it makes me think.
i want to live my life like one of my walks.
carefree.
breathing deeply.
eyes wide open for beauty at every turn.

sites and sounds
lately it seems like i have been on a media bender. i think in the last two weeks, i've seen more movies than i have in the past 6 months. i think last summer was like that too. not only that i have been digging around and finding a ton of interesting blogs to read and add to my beloved rss feed. the floral swatch above was found on one of the many blogs i've been reading lately, design sponge .
there's been good music around too and some great concerts are coming up (sufjan in september, danielson this thursday in cleveland!). here's a sample of some of the stuff i've been seeing and enjoying lately:
|||blogs|||
nathan smart's song blog is my boyfriend's brand new song review blog. he will be reviewing random songs from his itunes and the best part is you can read about the tune and listen to it too. go on over and show him some love while you enjoy the music.
oh joy simply lovely
stereo gum coolness
la coquette a french-american girl blogs from paris
|||culinary blogs|||
ok, so i knew these existed but what i did not know was how much i'd enjoy reading about these cooks descriptions of their culinary exploration. here's a couple i've particularly enjoyed, there are so many more and maybe i'll just add them to my sidebar eventually:
cupcake bakeshop
the unemployed cook
|||movies|||
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0379184/
blackballed: the bobby dukes story
hilarious mockumentary of a paintball super star, definitely check this out on dvd. it's not in theaters anymore.
the lady in the water
i disagree with the critics, to me this movie was thoroughly enjoyable. i have only seen one of mns' other movies and went into it with close to zero expectations. supposedly, this was originally a bedtime story that mns told his children, if you going into it knowing that i think it makes it even more entertaining.
strangers with candy
very funny. just as funny if not more so than the television series.

oh, how i love to receive flowers. it has to be one of my all time favorite things in life. flowers of any kind are always wonderful and appreciated but i especially love unique and tropical blossoms. so, imagine my delight when nathan brought me this gorgeous flower before our date last night. what is about flowers that just make you feel so loved? to any gentlemen out there reading, buy your girl a flower today. she will be so happy.

le cool
if you are traveling to europe sometime soon...or like me and would just like to pretend that you are jetting off to london, barcelona, madrid, amsterdam or lisboa (a.k.a. lisbon) this weekend.......then lecool.com is for you. it is self described as "...a Spanish-based publisher of highly selective editorial products. It began in February 2003 with le cool magazine Barcelona, a free and funky weekly agenda sent by email in English and Spanish. It recommends bars, restaurants and unusual experiences, always with an eye for the personal and unpredictable." i am just learning about it today, after having read about it at (the aptly named) coolhunting.com, but it's so popular that there is now a book available for purchase, titled "le cool changed my life". raise your hand if just reading this makes you want this book too! view some sample pages and buy your own copy here

walking downtown
just another reason that i love living downtown. these are some of the things i saw on my walk today*....which was quite eventful. Among other things during my walk i got offered a job, got caught in the rain(the kind of getting caught in the summer rain that is a good thing), and sat on the patio at my favorite little metro cafe with my journal and just savored the day.

happy thoughts
*whoever invented rss feeds is a genius. i know i'm pretty late on this train.........but that little feature on my "new" laptop's safari tool bar has changed my life. so if you see more comments from me, it's because i can kind of keep up with my blog friends these days. having a laptop is also brilliant. here i sit at panera, typing away. released from the confines of my broken down blue desk chair.
*i wandered over to fredflare.com today and daydreamed awhile over the cute bags, earrings, books, stationary, ipod cases and other cutie stuff. while i was there i especially enjoyed
these earrings
this book ,
from the author's of "Found", about a tresure trove of portraits found in a diner in indiana. oh to be so lucky to have found this.
these cute little papers, good for what? i don't know, i don't want to scrapbook. but they are just cute and i could make cards with them or something.
*life is good. my little cute mom is coming to visit this weekend. what a wonderful treat in life.
it's a sad day
**edit 6.27.06
yacht rock is part of an ongoing contest from channel101.com. it is not actually on television. it is hilarious, and also available for download from itunes. basically it's a parody of the birth of smooth artists like kenny loggins and michael mcdonald. you just have to watch it yourself.

pink
think pink.
this is from one of a set of gorgeous trays that zabs gave me last year for my birthday.
i've enjoyed this color party and i gotta say i am sad to see it end. if there's an after-party.....somebody please let me know. this proved my theory.....i'd write more (and blog more) if i just had some direction or topic ideas to get me going.
so here's your big chance. tell me, readers (if in fact you are still out there)........what would you like to read from me?

white/brown/black
fresh greens
i took so many green pictures today. seriously, SO many pictures of that kind of refreshing green that you can only understand if you live in ohio where winter lasts for what seems like 9 out of 12 months of the year and the grey days would not be so bad if only there was green and hills and quality air. so as i walked around on a tour of these beautiful gardens i took photos of all the lush green around me.
but.
i don't have my cord to upload the pics to my laptop. so that green will have to wait for another day.
meanwhile.
here's some fresh greens i saw in nyc this spring. they hit the spot too i think.

blue
day two in the color party and blue is the theme. this photo was taken at the columbus zoo's over rated manatee exhibit. captured here is a moment of gazing into the water and wishing with all my heart that we were at the beach instead. longing for the ocean. wishing i could stand right at the place where the tide comes up and washes over your feet, pulling the sand against you. there is nothing like that moment, looking out at the blue, blue water and the point where the ocean touches the sky. feeling the breeze, smelling the salty air, it all washes over you with a rhythm that matches the waves. in that moment, all my worries wash away. any troubles i had melt. my only concern is that i can take it all in and savor it as long as possible. it's not optional, it's a necessity......i have to go to the ocean soon.

yellow
here's my first in what will hopefully be a week of color fun. andrea has once again inspired me, so i am jumping in on her color party with this. this shot captures such a classic moment with my friends.....taking pics with the digital camera and then laughing at them. yellow roses mean friendship, so today these yellow daisies stand for friendship too.
yellow makes me think of cheery things....bright, sunny times. clean crisp yellow kitchens in the '50's and '60's. taxi cabs. the golden arches. days at the beach. flowery flowers. our dining room table that we had in the 70's. the contact paper my grandmother pitts used to cover everything. movie popcorn butter. a perfect little line of mustard on your hot dog. lemons, lemon sours from hillside pharmacy, lemonade, lemon bars and lemon icebox pie. comfy t-shirt material sheets. fuzzy and cute little baby chickies. daffodils. spring time. hollandaise sauce. eggs benedict. the yummy inside of a cadbury egg. a swiss dotted dress on a sweet little girl. national geographic magazine covers. my mother's house painted yellow with white trim.
hello yellow.

the pilot
if you like it we'd love for you to leave some good comments (only good comments!) and 5 star ratings on the youtube page. if you hate it, then ignore it. :)
the whole experience has ben really interesting so far. if nothing else comes of it.....it was really fun to be a part of filming it. if it gets picked up and i still get to be a part of it, that would be really crazy....and fun....and i don't know what else. we'll see. it made us laugh while we were making it, i hope it makes you laugh too.

thursday love
so this is one of my favorite things in life. my little bedroom window overlooking a dogwood tree in bloom and a courtyard with the fountain that lulls me softly to sleep every night. have i mentioned how much i love where i live? it's downtown, but tucked away on tree lined street. all my life i've wanted to live downtown. there's a beautiful old house and garden next door where they have weddings and parties. i love to sit by the window and hear the music and clinking of glasses. my apartment building was once a old hotel, built in the 1920's. it's full of charm and hardwood floors and history. i love this place.

byrds love him
posting this just because i like this photo so much. it turns out that if you go to the columbus zoo, you can go into this little greenhouse and feed these little australian birds with nectar. it also turns out that the zoo IS a fun place after all! it's kind of big deal for someone, who doesn't really get excited about animals much.... to say i had a really fun day at the zoo.

this was said tonight by felicia, a homeless woman, who was talking about God's joy and how much she has to be thankful for. she was explaining that when you are really thankful the gratitude can't help but spill out into your actions and your life.

junk yard days
i have had 2 cars since november. it sounds pretty luxurious for a single working girl in the city to own two cars. don't be fooled.......luxury is no where to be found in this story.
when the black beauty died.......i didn't know what to do with it. amazingly enough, no one on craigslist.com wanted to buy a '92 geo storm leaking coolant from it's engine that would overheat in about 5 minutes flat. for months it sat on the street until i got this really cute pink note from a police officer saying if i was too busy too move it....they'd be more than glad to haul it to the impound for me. (note: never once have i claimed to not be a procrastinator, i know it's april).
last thursday i woke up super early and called AAA and had the car towed to a junkyard on the west side. they promised to give me $87 dollars for the car. $87 sounded alot better than a ticket. as the tow truck driver was taking the car off the tow.... a woman came out that worked at the junk yard. she chomped her white castle biscuit and seemed to fairly salivate over my car as she stared at it. "you bringin' that car in?" she asked. i replied yes and she asked me how much they were 'giving me fer it". i told her and her eyes got really big. she started pacing around and asking me questions. she seemed pretty excited and told me "don't go nowhere while i make a phone call". she came back in a few minutes awhile and she shook her head in sad disappointment. "couldn't do it" she shrugged. as i waited in line to sign over my title i could see her thinking. she asked me to step outside. "where you gonna be at 11:30?" she asked. i told her i'd be at work. "when's your lunch break?" she said. i told her i was off at one. she leaned in and said in a low voice "if you can be back here at 1.30, i can get you $150 for that car....maybe more". i agreed to come back at 1.30. it would be a pain, but after all it meant $50 more....almost double my money.
i drove back at 1.30 to a completely different scene than the one i saw that morning. the cold, quiet junkyard was now a veritable carnival. there were guys in wife beaters driving in out of the lot blasting loud music.......a hot dog stand was set up..... people with red necks and big smiles were everywhere. i wound up selling the car for $130 to the woman's step son. he was this short red haired, freckled kid and he handed the cash to me all fanned out so i could count it. it felt like what i imagine a drug deal would feel like. the woman came out to seal the deal in hushed tones, shooing us to the back of the parking lot so she "wouldn't get herself fired" and swearing that if i came back tomorrow she get me that other $20 she promised me.
the whole thing was surreal. for a little while it's like i stepped into this other world on the west side. where a geo storm with not much rust and a leaky engine is a gem. where people go on scavenger hunts in heaps of metal. where $130 for a car is good money and where you can pull parts off an old chrysler and buy a hot dog all in the same spot.

i could just cry
it's a long story, but i had this stupid idea to start another stupid, stupid blog and then i changed my mind and somehow in the process of trying to delete the stupid blog i deleted this blog and
all
my
posts
that is almost 2 years of writing and memories and comments and laughter
down
the
freaking
drain.
i am so frustrated right now, that there really are not words to describe it. i honestly had the idea that this blog would be a little bit of history to keep throughout life.
whatever.
edit at 4:54pm:
well thank you google for being brilliant. because google has cache's of many web pages i was able to locate and save alot of my posts......maybe even most of them.
sigh.
